Alls Well in Cedar City
When the Utah Shakespearean Festival inaugurated its separate fall season seven years ago, it focused on relatively small shows with small casts — partly because no one was sure where the audience base would come from. "It has certainly grown up," managing director R. Scott Phillips told the Deseret Morning News.  More.....

Bike of the week: Deer Creek Dam to Soldier Hollow trail is now open
MIDWAY — Someday, and not too far off, bikers, or even spirited hikers, will be able to go from the Great Salt Lake, along the Jordan River, up Provo Canyon and turn north past Soldier Hollow, Jordanelle Reservoir and end up in the town of Echo on a trail void of cars, trucks and stoplights. Early Saturday, a major section in the Jordan River Parkway/Deer Creek trail was officially opened — from the Deer Creek Dam to Soldier Hollow, a distance of 7 1/2 miles.  More.....

County recreation: San Juan is brimming with natural treasures
Tucked away, deep in the southeastern corner of the state, are some of Utah’s most extraordinary historic markers, some dating back millions of years and some linked to Utah’s more recent past. And all are located within the boundaries of one county — San Juan. This calendar of time can start with Canyonlands National Park and Natural Bridges National Monument and can race forward to more recent recordings such as Hovenweep National Monument and the early American writings on Newspaper Rock.  More.....

Besides getting children and families healthy through walking, it also reduces traffic around schools, cutting down on the number of parents dropping off students.  More.....

Ray Grass: Moose — a few words of advice for hikers
A hiker, walking her dogs in Millcreek Canyon, recently had an encounter of the unforgettable kind — she ran headlong into a bull moose. Luckily, no one, neither the hiker nor her two dogs nor the moose, was seriously injured. The hiker suffered a deep gash on the leg and, most certainly, frayed nerves.  More.....

Some pretty, great state slogan ideas
From touting its inspirational magnificence to its status as "not Las Vegas," a few people gathering in Salt Lake City Monday had divergent notions about how to brand Utah to out-of-state tourists. About 70 people attended Monday’s "branding" meeting — one of several scheduled throughout the state by the Office of Tourism — at the Salt Palace and proffered ideas for a tourism slogan.  More.....

Globetrotting
WALKING IN WALES. Known as a walker’s paradise, Wales has added even more established walking paths. Thanks to the Countryside and Rights of Way Act, there’s four times more open country and common land available to walkers. You can now, for example, walk the full length of Brecon Beacons National Park, according to a press release.  More.....
